About ClosingTheDivide
Our Mission
ClosingTheDivide was founded by a team of high schoolers in San Jose with the mission of mitigating the digital divide through the donation of computers to low-income families across the United States and globally. We recognize that the digital divide is coupled with the issue of digital illiteracy, which we solve by providing aspiring students with coding classes. Additionally, CTD combats environmental pollution by giving e-waste a new life through refurbishment and community drives.
From Classroom to Community
ClosingTheDivide began as an Evergreen Valley High School class assignment by two eleventh-grade STEM students in San Jose, California. After learning how deeply the digital divide affects students close to home, they began collecting and refurbishing donated computers - and the class project grew into a nonprofit with student-led chapters across the country.
